ABSTRACT
Title:  "mass media" vs. "my media"? The implications of change
This presentation will address the revolution in how we experience media. We are witnessing an extraordinary transition from a legacy media ecosystem (broadcast, cable, movies at the theater) to a new ecosystem which adds multiple platforms for online and AI content. Adaptation to this new world will require we understand the changing roles and responsibilities of the individuals and corporations involved in producing media content.  At the same time we need to understand how our experiences as media consumers are changing and how those experiences of how we interpret, utilize, interact  and produce media content will lead to dramatic changes in culture and society. Before we react to or regulate this new ecosystem, we need to take into account all we don’t know.  This presentation won’t answer all the questions but work to assure we know what questions to ask.

ABSTRACT

Title: Crisis of Meaning: Communication Philosophy in the Digital Era
In the contemporary landscape of the digital era, the field of mass communication is struggling with a profound paradox. The velocity and volume of information have reached unprecedented heights, and the stability of shared meaning is rapidly breaking. The crisis of meaning is presented through the lens of communication philosophy, arguing that the traditional silos of journalism, broadcasting, public relations, advertising, and publishing are undergoing a radical global paradigm shift. Historically, these sectors operated as gatekeepers of truth and narrative. However, the rise of the global attention economy and algorithmic mediation has transformed communication from a process of understanding into a race for engagement. It leads to a philosophical vacuum where technical proficiency leaves behind ethical and epistemological considerations. By analyzing the phenomena currently scrutinized by global academics, the presentation outlines how the convergence of digital platforms has blurred the boundaries between persuasion, information, and entertainment. The article calls for a strategic return to the philosophical foundation as the essential momentum for the future of mass communication. Ultimately, human communication is not merely a nostalgic endeavor but a necessary survival strategy for the industry in an era of digital fragmentation.

ABSTRACT

Title: Using Media Monitoring to Identify Strategic Public Relations
This study examines and analyzes the use of media monitoring in Bandung City Government Public Relations to identify strategic issues. In the era of media convergence and the complexity of public communication, it is important for government agencies to monitor public opinion and manage reputation. The method used is qualitative research with a case study approach, in-depth interview data collection techniques and observation. The results of the study indicate that media monitoring is important in detecting potential crises, analyzing public sentiment, and developing responsive communication strategies based on data analysis. Media monitoring not only strengthens government transparency and accountability but also improves relations with the community. This study is expected to provide recommendations for the development of a more comprehensive media monitoring model for government agencies, so that they can adapt to the dynamics of public opinion and improve public communication with the community.

ABSTRACT

Title: The Future of Marketing: Influence sphere, Humanity and Sustainable Change
The rapid advancement of digital technologies, artificial intelligence and global sustainability challenges has reshaped the role of marketing beyond traditional commercial objectives. Contemporary marketing is increasingly expected to integrate economic performance with social responsibility, ethical influence and sustainable development outcomes. This research explores the transformation of marketing in shaping human behaviour, societal values and sustainable change in the digital era. It highlights the shift of marketing from a profit-centred function to a strategic mechanism that influences communication practices, consumer engagement, and social impact in both local and global contexts. A narrative review approach is employed to synthesise existing literature across digital marketing, social marketing, communication technologies, sustainable development goals (SDGs) and human-centred marketing. The review examines emerging themes such as digital influence, purpose-driven branding, sustainability communication and technology-mediated consumer behaviour. It also identifies key challenges, including ethical concerns, digital inequality, misinformation, and evolving societal expectations in the digital environment. The research argues that the future of marketing requires a more humanistic and sustainable orientation that integrates innovation, inclusivity, and responsibility. Marketing should be understood not only as a commercial tool but also as a transformative communication mechanism that supports sustainable societies and positive behavioural change. This contribution enriches scholarly discussions on the intersection of marketing, humanity, and sustainability in an increasingly interconnected digital world.
